MOR's acclaimed outreach series presents the song cycle "Fathers," with the premiere of a new version sung by Portland Opera mezzo Angela Niederloh. Contemporary composer Lori Laitman's "songs represent outpourings of great beauty," says Fanfare. Here, Laitman explores the father-child relationship by combining the Holocaust poetry of Sri Lankan poet Anne Ranasinghe and the work of Russian poet David Vogel. Ernest Bloch’s "Baal Shem" is a deeply touching musical portrait of Chassidic life. Nazis banned Erwin Schulhoff’s music as "degenerate"; his sparkling "Duo" bears the influence of its dedicatee, Leos Janácek. Artistic Director Mina Miller introduces each piece.
