Impresssionism in music is as dramatic as it is in the visual arts, but rarely are the two art forms enjoyed together. Join us upstairs in the West Wing of VMFA, home to the Collections of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. See paintings by legendary French Impressionists such as Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, and Alfred Sisley, and enjoy at the same time such seminal French Impressionistic works as Claude Debussy’s beloved Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, Eric Satie’s Le Fils des Etoiles and Jacques Ibert’s Deux Interludes, as well as the American Impressionist Arthur Foote’s Sarabande and Rigaudon, and the contemporary Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu’s haunting and evocative Toward the Sea. Funded by the Paul Mellon Endowment.
Free, but advanced tickets are required.
