Jinjoo Cho, violin & HyunSoo Kim, piano
(part of the "CIM Saturdays" series)
performing Bach's Violin Sonata No.1 (Adagio and Fuga), Beethoven's Violin Sonata No.1, Poulenc's Violin Sonata, and Waxman's Carmen Fantasie
Jinjoo Cho, violin, is the First Grand Prize and People's Choice Award winner of the 2006 Montreal International Musical Competition, First Prize and Orchestra Award winner of the 2010 Buenos Aires International Violin Competition, 2nd laureate of the 2011 Isang Yun International Music Competition and the gold medalist of the 2005 Stulberg International String Competition. She has appeared as soloist with The Cleveland Orchestra, the Montréal, Québec, Winnipeg and Victoria Symphony Orchestras, the Seoul Philharmonic, Kalamazoo Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, CityMusic Cleveland, l’Orchestre de Chambre I Musici de Montréal and Aspen Concert Orchestra, collaborating with such renowned artists as Robert McDuffie, Michael Stern, Peter Oundjian, Kent Nagano, Steven Smith, Anton Nel, Muhai Tang and James Gaffigan.
She has served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts, and regularly appears on recital series in Cleveland, Montréal, Seoul, Munich and New York. Recently Jinjoo gave three Canadian recital tours with pianist Louise-Andrée Baril, and performed recitals in Germany, Korea, Canada and the U.S. In 2011-12 she gave a concert tour of Argentina, including appearances with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and a series of recitals organized by Mozarteum Argentino. Jinjoo regularly performs with pianists Anita Pontremoli, HyunSoo Kim, Thomas Hoppe and Ae-Ri Loh.
A dedicated orchestral and chamber musician, Jinjoo was a member of the Wo-Men String Quartet. The group was coached by Peter Salaff and the Cavani String Quartet and participated in masterclasses with Donald Weilerstein, Arnold Steinhardt and the Pacifica and Takács String Quartets. She served as concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (2003-06) and the New York String Orchestra Seminar (2009 and 2010). A passionate advocate for community outreach and education concerts, in January 2011, she formed ‘Starlite,’ for artists in Korea dedicated to community outreach and interactive synergy. She has given numerous concerts in support of educational outreach throughout her career. With strong Cleveland connections, she has performed often for local organizations including the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, Cleveland Philharmonic, Cleveland Clinic, Tuesday Musical Association of Akron, CityMusic Cleveland, Arts Renaissance Tremont, CIM Women's Committee events and more.
A native of Seoul, South Korea, Jinjoo is a graduate of Yewon Art School and the Korean National University of Arts, Pre-College. After her move to the United States in 2002, she graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music preparatory division Young Artist Program and attended the Curtis Institute of Music. Jinjoo recently finished her Bachelor of Music Degree and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in violin performance at CIM. Paul Kantor has been her teacher and mentor since 2002. This fall she began studying with renowned artist/teacher, Jaime Laredo.

November 17th, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. (SATURDAY) - FiveOne Experimental Orchestra's "Sonic Cinema" in LSW Auditorium : FiveOne Experimental Orchestra announces the performance of Sonic Cinema, a showcase of video art and film shorts with live orchestral accompaniment. This exhibition was crated as part of the annual BigBox production series at the Cleveland Public Theatre. Our collaborative production will headline with the premiere of Kasumi’s new work “Chronicles of Laughing Yesterday”. Sonic Cinema will also feature brand new musical compositions from area composers Jeremy Allen, Michael Bratt, John HC Thompson, and Roger Zare. The evening is also highlighting new films from outstanding emerging directors Mike Jones, KD Tolliver, and Travis Pollert. FiveOne aims to deliver an unforgettable night of sight and sound and we kindly invite all to attend.
