"Music at Main" continues in 2010! The Fine Arts Department is pleased to present marimba player and Cleveland State University graduate Carol Dieball on January 23rd, 2010 at 2pm in the 3rd floor lobby of the Main Library building (325 Superior Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, 44114). Ms. Dieball will perform solo marimba works by Mitchell Peters, J.S. Bach, Keiko Abe, Evelyn Glennie, Kevin Bobo, and Matthias Schmitt. This program is free and open to all ages. Ms. Dieball's interest in percussion started at the age of 12 and she studied with Harry Damas for the first 5 years of her musical life. She began her college career at Cuyahoga Community College where she studied percussion with Mell Csicsila and developed an interest in the marimba. Ms. Dieball recently graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Music Degree in music performance. During her time at CSU she studied percussion with Matt Bassett and drum set with Bill Ransom. In 2007 she won CSU's concerto competition, performing Paul Creston's Concertino for Marimba, and in 2008 she won CSU's composition competition with her piece for string orchestra entitled Strange Dreams. Ms. Dieball plans on continuing her musical education at the graduate level with a concentration on drum set. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her unicycle around the streets of downtown Cleveland, and taking care of George, her bonsai tree.
