The program begins with Birth of a Harpsichord a short, stop-motion documentary by filmmaker Andrea Love. The concert follows with Preludes of Francois Couperin interspersed with new Aliénor winning compositions, as well as other compositions that pay homage to Couperin. Harpsichordists Elaine Funaro and Beverly Biggs will perform both solos and duos on their contrasting instruments; the new and boldly painted Kingston Opus #333 juxtaposed to the elegant, late-baroque, French double manual. After the concert, there will be a panel discussion with Opus #333’s painter, artist Lisa Creed, as well as filmmaker Andrea Love. Aliénor is an international, non-profit harpsichord organization, which sponsors a quadrennial competition for new music for the harpsichord.
