The Museum Reference Center holds the museum's collections of library and archival material, including the Norman Rockwell Archives. The Norman Rockwell Archives, containing more than 100,000 items, is composed primarily of business correspondence, fan mail and reference material. Of particular note is the Rockwell collection of several thousand black-and-white photographs of models and scenes used by the illustrator in the development of his work. Formal and candid photographs have been donated to the archives, providing additional insight into the artist's life. This collection also includes magazines, books, tear sheets, limited-edition and other prints, and examples of the uses of Rockwell's illustrations, as well as an assortment of costumes and props used by the artist.
