With its emphasis on parallel developments in French and English art over the same general period, this collection provides an interesting opportunity for contrast and comparison. The museum's French holdings follow the history of 19th-century landscape painting in France from the academic to the Impressionist, and includes major works by Morisot and Monet. Holdings by early 20th-century artists are also strong with works by Walter Sickert, Stanley Spencer, and Wyndham Lewis.
