Don’t DIS My ABILITY

College is the first place where students encounter people with disabilities. Students often have a soft corner for them and they tend to help them in navigation and other chores as a social responsibility. But in this process we often forget to give them emotional support. More than out pity they need our support; they need to have a normal life like all of us.

Anuthi Welfare Society with its tagline Don’t Dis My Ability is spreading some message among students. They envision a change in the mindset of people regarding disabilities, their campaign is about changing the misconceptions surrounding disability and creating an environment that encourages the disabled for participation in leisure pursuits and social activities. Giving them the necessary motivation towards education and helping them build the good personality by making the entire process enjoyable.

In a one of its kind initiative, Mumbai University is organizing a Marathon in association with Anuthi Welfare Society for all college students in order to raise funds for the visually impaired. The Kalina Campus of University Mumbai does not have a center for the visually challenged students. The intention is to start a center specially designed for them equipped with Mountbatten Brailler, computers, magnifying machines, computer accessories, etc.

The Run will be conducted from Nariman point to Haji Ali. (7 Km) The turnout of the students is expected to be around 10,000. The registrations have already started for the same at every college in Mumbai;
