Saint-Saëns’ majestic Organ Symphony brings the 2006 Master Series to a thrilling close. Featuring one of the all-time greatest themes, the Symphony is a thoroughly joyful experience and in the Adelaide Town Hall, the magnifi cent Walker organ, will set the spine tingling. The program begins with the world premiere of a work by Graeme Koehne On the Beach, inspired by Nevil Shute’s iconic novel. The contemplative mood persists in John Williams’ evocation of the mystical world of Celtic tradition and its reverence for nature, The Five Sacred
Trees. The composer of unforgettable film scores (from Star Wars to Harry Potter and more), Williams here turns his skills to a more extended and deeply thought compositional mode, and provides a feature for the ASO’s brilliant principal bassoonist, Mark Gaydon.
