Varnish Fine Art’s Experimental Film & Video Art Series Continues in April, with a Show of Shorts!

Varnish Fine Art is hosting a “RESFest Retrospective,” in this month’s Moving Pictures presentation April 30th 7-9pm.

San Francisco, CA. April 16, 2008. Varnish Fine Art’s ongoing experimental film and video art series continues in April with an evening of “cinema snacks,” short experimental and animated films from the archives of RESFest, the most prominent digital film festival in North America. RESFest has been called “a hotbed of cutting edge talent, up-and-coming superstars, and retrospectives of creative arts living legends.” Ending its ten-year run in 2006, the festival brought together some of the most diverse and unique digital art from across the planet. This month, Moving Pictures hosts a “RESFest Retrospective,” showcasing some of the gems from this celebrated exposition. As always, Moving Pictures is screened the last Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 9 pm.

Some of the shorts include Mark Osbourne’s stop-motion animated short film More, voted “Best Short” at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, and Max a gripping drama by the group AWOL, that takes place in the trenches of a backyard where toy soldiers battle for supremacy.

Moving Pictures is an ongoing monthly presentation of new media work by local video artists and experimental filmmakers and animators. To submit work for review, please send your submissions to Varnish Fine Art, attention Danielle Schmitz.

Varnish is a 21+ only venue. No one under the age of 21 will be admitted. No babies or kids, either.

Gallery Directors Jennifer Rogers and Kerri Stephens opened Varnish Fine Art on April 19, 2003. Beginning with the remains of a brewery built just after the 1906 earthquake, Rogers and Stephens designed and rebuilt the space, including a main gallery, mezzanine gallery and wine bar, combining gallery with community.
