Walk through the doors of the Museum and take a step back to early 19th Century New York where you'll find yourself in The Mount Vernon Hotel. As you wander through the eight period rooms, music of the pianoforte floats out of the Ladies' Double Parlors and the scent of lavender fills the air. In the Gentlemen's Tavern Room, feel free to take a seat, read a newspaper from 1828 and talk about the politics of the day. Next, you'll hear stories of the well-to-do guests sipping turtle soup in the Lower Hall as tensions boil over in the Kitchen between the Irish and African-American hired help. The tour ends with a relaxing stroll through the Museum's 18th Century gardens.
