In honor of Mother's Day, an artists' showcase about moms and being moms. Locus celebrates the love and complexity of motherhood with an array of artists working in different disciplines.

Featuring the audio documentary "Omma and Mamma" by Dutch Korean adoptee Eun-mi Postma, poet and printmaker Nancy Hom, and spoken word fireball Dandiggity. More artist info TBA!

** The Mom Show ** In honor of mothers who may not be able to come, Locus invites everyone to email us (email annie -at- hyphenmagazine.com) a photo of your mom for us to include in our slideshow that will be projected during the screening of Omma and Mamma. For folks without digital versions, we will have a scanner onsite at Locus and can scan your photo before the show.

About the Artists

Eun-mi Postma is a Dutch radio and print journalist. Her radio documentary "Omma en Mamma" won the Prix Europa for best European Radio Documentary in 2002. At the age of 16, ten years after her adoption by her Mamma, Eun-mi meets her Omma for the first time in her native country Korea. On TV, reunited family members fall into each other?s arms, and everything seems to be just heaven on earth. What the viewer doesn?t get to see is how things go on from there. The real story doesn?t begin until after the encounter. Eun-mi tells her own story in this documentary - among other things on the basis of sound recordings made by her adoptive parents when she had just arrived in Holland, her diary entries, letters, dreams, conversations with both mothers, and the moving song her eldest brother in Korea sings for her. Omma and Mamma is about craving for the security of a home. Is home the place where your mother is?

Nancy Hom?s experience as an immigrant, a mother, a community leader, and spiritual seeker provide the framework for her visual and literary pursuits. She is a multifaceted artist, writer, organizer, and arts administrator. Widely known for her silkscreen artwork, she has created images for numerous political, social, and community events. Nancy is also a children's book illustrator, a published author, and a graphic designer. She has been involved with Kearny Street Workshop, a San Francisco-based multidisciplinary Asian Pacific American arts organization, for 30 years and served as its Executive Director from 1995 to 2003. She is the mother of Nicole Hsiang, who is now attending Wesleyan University.
