Artist Talk & Slide Presentation
Artist Talk with Taraneh Hemami
& Slide Presentation with Sana Makhoul
Saturday June 16, 2007 @ 2pm, FREE
Artist Taraneh Hemami has been exhibiting and teaching in the Bay Area since 1991. Her
work has ranged from large, personal paintings to intimate book arts, from sculptures to
installations, from performances to digital sound pieces. Join Hemami for a discussion
about her new work and exhibition currently on view, Most Wanted. This is followed by a
slide presentation by Sana Makhoul entitled In the Middle of..., which looks at the
visual images used throughout history at times of war to impact people and construct
stereotypes. Makhoul specifically examines the misrepresentation of and stereotyping of
Arabs and Muslims in many public arenas, from television and cinema to newspapers and the
fine arts. This talk will examine these images and how contemporary artists are
addressing them.
