Eclipsed for many years by glamorous St Petersburg, Moscow had, by the beginning of the 20th century, finally found its place as an industrial, cultural and political centre. Quicker to recognise and acclaim its native talent than its northern rival, it lauded the achievements of Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Rachmaninov, Tolstoy and Chekhov, Vrubel, Malevich and Kandinsky. Through lectures, extracts from the films and documentaries, slides and music this study day reveals Moscow's unique historical and socio-cultural legacy.
