Okay, this is (not) going to hurt. South Waterfront Community Relations and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine present “More Than Just Needles: An Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine,” part of the South Waterfront Live Well Series.

According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, an estimated 3.1 million U.S. adults had been treated with acupuncture the previous year. While acupuncture has become increasingly accessible and common, not everyone is familiar with the adjunctive therapies that traditional Chinese medicine has to offer. Practitioners use a combination of tools, including acupuncture, shiatsu, qigong, tuina and herbal medicine to gently adjust a patient’s specific physical and emotional imbalances.

Learn about the concept of qi, the vital energy that Chinese medicine seeks to balance, the differences between Chinese and Western approaches to health and what conditions Chinese medicine can best treat. One of OCOM’s licensed acupuncturists will provide sample treatments to interested participants.

To help you relax, we will have sake tastings from Oregon's own SakeOne and light appetizers from Bambuza Vietnamese Bistro.
