Book clubs are the rage in Marin County yet many readers complain that discussions often aren't focused enough on the book. The Osher Marin JCC is launching "More Than A Jewish Book Club - Meet the Author", providing members with an experienced book club facilitator to lead the discussion AND a chance to spend an hour with the author in an intimate setting. All the authors are Jewish and based in the Bay Area and each of the books features a Jewish theme.
Pamela Feinsilber-freelance book editor and writer and the former literary and arts editor at San Francisco Magazine--has been leading a book group called Meet the Author, at Book Passage in Corte Madera, for more than two years. The discussion she leads in the first hour raises questions that participants can then ask the author in the second hour-about the book itself or what it took to write and publish it.
The dates, titles and authors are as follows:
Mar 23: Pictures at an Exhibition by Sara Houghteling
Apr 27: Life, Death and Bialys by Dylan Schaffer
From 7-8pm, Pamela Feinsilber will lead a discussion about the book and from 8-9pm participants will enjoy a casual conversation with the author. Registration is available by calling 415-444-8000 or, in person, at the front desk of the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, 200 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael.
