Bit Shifter explores high-energy, low-bit music composed and performed
on a Nintendo Game Boy. The result is an unapologetically fun foray
into an evocative and distinctive soundset traditionally reserved for
video game sound effects and background music, all done on a console
generally misperceived as being technically limited. Made possible by
the development of home-brew Game Boy musicmaking programs Nanoloop (by
Oliver Wittchow) and Little Sound DJ (by Johan Kotlinski), Bit
Shifter's music adopts and subverts the playfulness inherent in the
familiar Game Boy soundset, repurposing it into the service of novel
idioms. Based in New York City, Bit Shifter has been fortunate enough
to perform in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles,
Toronto, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Stockholm.

"Salvatore Principato is best-known as the vocalist and percussionist for the seminal minimalist-funk band Liquid Liquid . He began his entertainment career in San Francisco in the late 1970s, performing spoken word, composing songs, and creating short films before moving to New York in 1979 to help form Liquid Liquid. In recent years, Principato has produced many words-and-music events in New York City with a focus on Caribbean and African sounds. He has emerged as an internationally acclaimed DJ, and continued his musical endevours, including recordings and sold-out concerts with the reunited Liquid Liquid.
