With fall around the corner and winter not too far behind, monarch butterflies will begin their migration south. Catch more than a glimpse of monarch butterflies at Cleveland Metroparks “Monarch Magic” event.
“Fly” over to Cleveland Metroparks “Monarch Magic” and discover Dr. Karen Oberhauser’s passion for butterflies, especially Monarchs!
Guest speaker Dr. Karen Oberhauser, of the University of Minnesota, will do three presentations, “Milkweed, Monarchs and More” at noon, 1:45 and 3 p.m. Oberhauser’s presentations will be followed by book signings (books available for purchase).
Visitors can also enjoy a variety of other activities at “Monarch Magic,” including monarch banding, a butterfly net tent with live caterpillars and monarchs, hikes, children’s crafts and activities, and more!
Plus, enjoy two great movies: at 1 and 4 p.m. “On the Wings of Monarchs” and at 2 p.m. “Saving the Monarchs.”
Visitors can also browse the great merchandise selections of EarthWords Nature Shop including unique butterfly items, and enjoy a refreshment area.
New in 2009 – Kids Monarch Magic Art Show. Cleveland Metroparks invites kids 12 and under to submit original artwork to the Monarch Magic – Kid’s Butterfly Art Show. The artwork should be no larger than 8.5" x 11", any media form and feature local butterflies.
