Molly Birnbaum was on her way to becoming a professional chef when a car accident results in a complete loss of her sense of smell. With it her sense of taste is also gone and the life she planned suddenly comes to a halt. In “Season to Taste: How I Lost My Sense of Smell and Found My Way” Birnbaum transports the reader into the sterile world of her condition, called “anosmia.” She meets fascinating personalities like Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, also an anosmic, as well as Dr. Oliver Sacks, the famous neuroscientist. Birnbaum eventually recovers but this experience changes the course of her life.
