Moe Berg, the major league baseball player, OSS operative, and legendary linguist, was one of the most remarkable secret agents ever deployed by the U.S. Whether authorized by the government as an atomic spy, or choosing to surreptitiously film Tokyo of his own volition, Berg relished—and accomplished—his espionage missions. During this in-depth exploration of the versatile Berg, you’ll enjoy an introduction to his incredible spy career by Linda McCarthy, founding curator of the CIA Museum; an overview of the Moe Berg memorabilia in the collection of the American Jewish Historical Society by Dr. Michael Feldberg, author of Blessings of Freedom: Chapters in American Jewish History; and personal recollections of the catcher by Vivian Grey, author of Moe Berg: The Spy Behind Home Plate. To honor Berg, the Jewish-American Hall of Fame (JAHF) is celebrating his patriotism and top secret ops with a commemorative medal. Medal sculptor and designer Eugene Daub will explain how the medal was made, and then Mel Wacks, founding director of the JAHF will present the first striking to the catcher’s cousin Irwin M. Berg. As the afternoon concludes, Chuck Brodsky will sing his rendition of “Moe Berg: The Song” and you’ll have the chance to stay for an after-program screening of an ESPN documentary on Berg.
