Kids of all ages will enjoy the model railroad layouts at the James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road, the weekend of December 2 and 3. The layouts will be displayed in the Kitzinger Community Room Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 - 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call the library's Adult Services Department at (757) 259-7720 or visit the library's website at www.wrl.org.
The Ford's Colony Model Railroad Club organized the display for the second consecutive year in order to share their hobby. Operating layouts range from the tiniest of gauges to the largest garden railroad setups. Intricately detailed scenery will be on display, and club members will answer questions about their work and how to get started in the hobby -- ideal for those looking for holiday gift ideas. John Roberts, past president of the National Model Railroaders Association, will be at the event both days, building models and creating landscape elements.
A display of Chesapeake and Ohio railroad history and memorabilia, a painting of the Williamsburg Station, and photos and a model of the Norge Depot as it was in its heyday will round out the railroad theme.
