Mitzi MacDonald, award-winning singer-songwriter has been performing throughout Canada and the US until she settled here in St. Louis. Mitzi brings the flavor of her homeland, (Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia) to her music and her performances. At the Wine Press, she will be playing a stunning grand piano at this intimate wine-beer bar, located not far from CWE and Gaslight Square. She will be backed by Keltic Reign: Mike Levine on guitar, her son Andrew Laws on bass, and her girls, Holly Laws on Fiddle and mandolin, Ashby Laws on accordion and irish tin whistle. Holly and Ashby are dancers at St. Louis Irish Arts, and will be sharing a few steps as well. Principal fiddler Anna Allen will make a guest appearance on some tunes, as well.
Mitzi loves to share real life experiences through her songs. Beginning with her life on an island, on the east coast of Canada, to the present day in the city of St. Louis, her songs carry the listener from her youth through the joys of raising a family, and growing spiritually. She eventually comes full circle, back to the traditional roots of her Scottish and Irish heritage. She lately has been known to do covers of songs by Carole King and Carly Simon, among others.
