On December 5, 2009, Cass Community Social Services (Cass) is celebrating the 14th Annual Miss Cass Pageant. Two dozen developmentally disabled contestants of Cass’ Activity Center and East Side Ministries will shine in donated evening gowns and perform their special talents at Cass United Methodist Church in Detroit. The night will kick off with the spectacular arrival of the yellow brick road and a special appearance from the flying monkeys. The show will begin at 4:00 p.m. and conclude with refreshments to celebrate the hard work of pageant contestants.
The contestants will dance and sing to this year’s theme, Wizard of Oz. The ladies will engage in three categories for the chance to be crowned Dorothy. First, contenders will flaunt their glamorous evening gowns as they strut down the yellow brick road with tuxedo-clad male escorts (also clients of Cass) by their side. Next they will make their way to the front of the church to enthusiastically perform their special talent. The contestants sing, dance and recite poems showcasing their innate finesse to the crowd.
Tickets to the 2009 Miss Cass Pageant are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by calling Cass at (313) 883-2277. Proceeds from the pageant support field trips for Cass adults and seniors that participate in the activity center program.
