At the intersection of 14th and Hull Streets is Mayo Island.
Named after the man who named our city of Richmond. Rumor has it “the Babe” once graced this island for a 9 inning exhibition of Yankee caliber baseball. On the island sits the buildings that formed the original Overnight Transportation Hub here in Richmond.
Now a group of artists have taken over a former loading dock and second floor administrative offices and turned them into a front porch and studios to persue their passions of craft, photography, film, painting, illustration, design and branding.
We are the Mayo Island Studio Collective. On Friday September 21, 2012 we are unlocking the gates and inviting you to our Open Studio.
