No other work of music has ever created the uproar that came with the 1913 premiere of Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring.' Commotion reigned from the first downbeat to the moment the police arrived--the ballet seemed barbaric and dissonant to listeners of that time, its rhythms too powerful. The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra joins the Minnesota Orchestra for a performance of 'Rite of Spring' and other works by Stravinsky.
