“Two of Us” is a delightful and touching anthology compilation of four vignette comedies, exploring the complexities of love and marriage in the modern world and are at the same time, both funny and poignant, whilst also quirkily odd. Like Frayn’s most popular work, Noises Off, it highlights his dazzling ability for comic timing and farcical situations.
The cast includes Missy Moore (Wife/Jo/Bea), Mike Martinkus (Husband/Stephen/Barney), Leslie Randle Chapman (Gina/Nibs) C.J. Smith (Alex) and Zachery Andrews (Kenneth/Geoffrey).
Michael J. Frayn is best known as the author of the farce Noises Off and the dramas Copenhagen andDemocracy. His works often raise philosophical questions in a humorous context.
“Two of Us” was Michael Frayn’s first published work and in 1975, Lynn Redgrave and John Clarkoptioned it for a successful coast to coast United States tour. Unable to find one actor willing and able to play all the male parts, director Clark settled for 3 actors. For one of the vignettes, The New Quixote,he had cast a black actor to increase the woman's dilemma, but when the play reached Elitch Gardens in Denver, the theatre producer refused to let the play go on unless the part was recast with a white actor. The same refusal was repeated throughout the tour, which was a sign of those times.
