Conventional wisdom is that any audience will tire of a relentless stream of one-liners, even one-liners as exquisite as these, so Milton Jones varies the pace, introducing characters, or reading extracts from imagined historical diaries, but these are only flimsy cover for the unrelenting stream of lean, ridiculous jokes.
Onstage he adopts the persona of an idiot savant, reinforced by an idiotic grin, a faraway gaze, hand-knitted jumpers and a half-demonic sighed chortle he emits to himself after some of the more deranged jokes.
