Mill Valley Philharmonic presents the second concert series of its 13th season with Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, in association with the Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin JCC. This revolutionary work of art forever changed the symphonic world. MVP offers Samuel Barber's award-winning work, The School for Scandal Overture, and Boccherini's Cello Concerto in Bb with soloist Robert Howard.
MVP is excited to welcome Robert Howard back to our stage. He will perform Boccherini's Cello Concerto in Bb, written around 1770. Boccherini himself was a talented cellist, and wrote ten cello concerti. This one is his 9th concerto, and was arranged by German cellist Friedrich Grtzmacher in 1895. Robert Howard is a graduate of Rice University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has performed in numerous music festivals nationally and internationally. Robert won first prize in the Rome Festival Competition. Locally, he performs with American Bach Soloists, New Century Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque, and the San Francisco Symphony. A frequent guest on many Bay Area chamber music series, Robert has also made several concerto appearances with Bay Area orchestras. As a teacher, he has coached at San Francisco Conservatory, Stanford University, San Jose State University, and the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop.
