On April 16, 2009, Kaye Spilker, Curator of Costumes and Textiles at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will present “Pearls Unfurled: The Luxurious Decoration of Dress,” revealing how pearls have enriched garments of popes, princes, and the rich and famous throughout history and across cultures. Spilker has been with the Costume and Textiles department of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for more than 20 years. She has curated exhibitions on a broad range of subjects from Pre-Columbian textiles to theater costumes of the Ballets Russes and recently co-authored “Breaking the Mode”, featuring LACMA's collection of contemporary fashion.

In January, Academy Award-nominated Costume Designer, Deborah Nadoolman Landis presented “Sensuous Cinema: The Power of Pearls,” a visual tour through the glamorous pearl-draped heroines of the movies, launching the series. Additional speakers to be announced.
