8:00 Misc. 16mm Film 60 mins.
Do you have some 16mm film you picked up somewhere along the way, but have never seen? Well, we have a projector. Did you make a 16mm film, but haven’t shown it to anyone in a while? Well, we have a projector. If no one brings in anything, we’ll be watching my footage from Texas or misc. films from the New York Public Library collection.
9:00 F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans
(1927) 95 mins.
Though Nosferatu (the original bald vampire film) is German Expressionist F.W. Murnau’s most famous film, it pales in comparison to his first Hollywood feature Sunrise. Generally considered one of the greatest films of all time, Sunrise tells the story of a young farming couple whose relationship is revitalized after the husband tries and fails to kill his wife. With achingly beautiful b&w photography and a real emotional wallop, this film might make you reconsider everything you ever felt about silent film.
With live electric guitar and effects by The Weimar Republic.
