Midnight Rider September 8, 2006

Patterned after the highly successful midnight family bicycle rides in Memphis and Denver, the Midnight Rider is a fun outdoor activity for the entire family to enjoy in Virginia Beach.

This is not a race. Bicyclists simply ride at their own pace and enjoy the beauty of the city at an hour they normally never ride. The city's paved and lighted bike trails are used along the entire 16-mile route.

Riders begin in pre-established waves to keep the flow even and steady throughout the ride. Mobile units travel the course to provide minor repairs and carry bikes and bike riders back to the start if they can't complete the race.

The Midnight Rider is a charity event that benefits the Virginia Legends Walk and the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival.
