The Bayou Boogaloo is a free admission music and visual arts festival held in the heart of New Orleans on the banks of the historically significant Bayou St John. The Bayou Boogaloo was founded in 2006 to restore the social fabric of Mid-City and the surrounding neighborhoods in the wake of hurricane Katrina, to reconnect neighbors and neighborhoods, and to provide hope for the future of New Orleans through a celebration of New Orleans’ rich cultural heritage.
The festival features three live music stages, playing a wide musical variety, exploring the New Orleans roots in blues, jazz, and rock as well as the sounds of reggae, hip!hop, gospel, and the distinctive music of the city’s brass bands. Local restaurants serve Mid-City favorites, localized renditions of traditional New Orleans cuisine. Through the Boogaloo Bazaar and the Boogaloo Artist Market, the festival offers original artwork from Louisiana artists. Families and children are made welcome with children’s activities and a kids stage for children’s entertainment.
