The Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial Wall was created in 2005 by SSgt Kurt Damrow and John Swanson in memory of Damrow's cousin, Navy GMG3 Oliver Damrow of Kinde, Michigan, who was killed in Vietnam shortly after beginning his second tour of duty. The memorial wall features the names of Michigan's 2,654 casualties. In addition to the memorial, the display will feature books with biographies on each of Michigan's casualties as well as photos of more than 1,400 of them. The public is invited to bring photos of friends and relatives killed in action during Vietnam so that their photos may be included in the books.
