Utopian in concept, civic in style, and structuralist in conception, New Urbanism promotes mixed use and walkability, as well as overall coherence, legibility, and human scale. As a movement, it has enjoyed meteoric success in the American media?although it remains an anathema to many in the academic world. It achieves the most aesthetic and social unity compared to other theories?but does it romanticize a mythic and nostalgic past?"
