Witness the spell binding Belgian chanteuse Micheline Van Hautem at Riverside Theatres on Friday, 15 April as she abandons herself to the passion of Jacques Brel's repertoire accompanied by virtuoso guitarist Erwin van Ligten for one special performance.
Edinburgh Festival award winner, Micheline Van Hautem has played to critical acclaim around the world. Renowned for her spell binding stage presence and emotional expression, Van Hautem inhabits the poetry and passion of Brel’s music singing in French, Flemish and English. Van Hautem inhabits each of the songs rather than just performs them.
“The energy with which Micheline Van Hautem brings to life Brel’s music is extraordinary. Her guitarist. Erwin Van Ligten is a talented musician and together they make a dynamic duo. This is certain to be a concert not to be missed,” said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love.
Micheline Van Hautem has played to packed houses at the Edinburgh Festival - winning a prestigious Herald Angel Award, Sydney Opera House, two sell out seasons at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and in 2009 completed a 60 date European tour with Jacques nephew, and keeper of the Brel flame, Bruno Brel.
Behold this Belgian chanteuse, whether in French, English or Dutch she communicates with a livid sensual force that has the listener transfixed.
“Even though he lived quite a few years ago, and he's a man, and he sings in French, I feel such a very strong connection with Brel's music. I feel very excited about returning to Sydney and performing at Riverside Theatres,” said Micheline Van Hautem.
