'Coppelia' is a comic ballet about a clever young girl named Swanilda which first premiered in 1870 and has been a favorite of ballet aficionados ever since. Swanilda's boyfriend Franz falls for a beautiful mechanical doll named Coppelia who has been created by the funny, old toy maker Dr. Coppelius.
