URBAN ADVENTURE RACING COMES TO PHOENIX APRIL 9TH, 2011
Merrell Oyster Racing Series Offers Chance to Win $50k while Racing around Valley landmarks
For those who like to exercise their brain as well as their body - the sport of urban adventure racing is coming to Phoenix April 9th, via the #1 rated Merrell Oyster Racing Series. Your challenges might include scavenging around the zoo, blind taste testing beers at the pub, or zipping down a slip ‘n slide in this urban race, as well as running, biking, and water elements -- all while having a shot at winning $50,000 and benefiting a great cause!
The event has been called the “Ultimate Urban Adventure Race,” due to the combination of athletic ability and thought provoking strategy required to compete. First established in Denver in 2003, the race now takes place annually in 10 cities, and kicks off its 2011 season here in Phoenix.
Teams of three to six competitors solve city specific clues in a four-to-six hour race that spans roughly 30 miles of terrain through a top-secret, high adrenaline course around the city. Smaller course options are available for less extreme athletes, including the Half Oyster and the new 5-mile Oyster Shooter course, a foot race with Oyster challenges, for those looking for a fun way to shake up tired road races. This is not your typical 10K! For those who want to join in the fun, but are unsure of their endurance levels, the Oyster Relay division is designed for friends and corporate groups looking for team-building activities.
Alongside a chance at winning $50,000 in a top-secret challenge, the race will benefit Sun Sounds of Arizona, a local non-profit that provides audio access information to people who cannot read print due to disabilities.
