Merely Players is an ongoing performance salon presented by Mortal Folly Theatre. By presenting classical pieces without sets, costumes or props, audiences have an opportunity to experience classical theatre in its purest form - actors telling stories. The actors themselves are encouraged to explore new material and expand their skill with classical texts, including performing pieces that would not have historically been available to them because of age, gender or “type”.
These two editions of Merely Players are evenings of Shakespeare sonnets, monologues, and short scenes,
including pieces from Othello, As You Like It, The Winter's Tale, Titus Andronicus and more. The evenings’ entertainment also includes original music by Amanda Gookin and on the 29th, she will be joined by PubliQUARTET.
