Friday, Nov 27th is almost here!!!…it is the much anticipated opening night of The Odyssey Theatre’s guest production of Mercy Warren’s Tea, an exhilarating play which focuses on the life of Mercy Otis Warren (1728-1814), America’s first woman playwright and historian. Warren secretly authored anti-British plays that sparked Revolutionary sentiment.
Mercy Warren’s Tea opens Friday, Nov 27th at 8:00 pm and runs Thursdays –Sundays. The Odyssey Theatre is located at 2055 S. Sepulveda Blvd. LA CA 90025. The play revolves around our founding mother Mercy Warren, who gives a tea party welcoming important guests - including the daughters of the American Revolution, Abigail Adams and Peggy Arnold. Tensions mounts as the play unfolds and we learn more about our leading political figures of the time…revealing surprising secrets.
Mercy Warren’s Tea, written by Jovanka Bach, was the winner of the American Public Radio Drama award and is directed and produced by John Stark.
Jovanka Bach collaborated with John Stark on many projects including plays, television and film. John Stark is an actor/director/producer and his most notable achievement is the feature film Chekhov and Maria originally written by Jovanka Bach Chekhov & Maria, voted Best Drama in the New York Int’l Film Festival and the British Film Festival L.A. is set to air on Canadian Television and PBS. The film was a memorial tribute to Jovanka Bach, his wife. Jovanka Bach passed away in 2006.
So it is with a heavy heart yet a proud persistence that producer/director John Stark presents this play at the Odyssey Theatre. To help commemorate this special opening, Nancy Rubin, author of the book “The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren, The Muse of the Revolution” has agreed to be a part of this wonderful event and will be on hand to sign books on opening night.
