MERCADO CELEBRATES CENTRAL AND NORTH AMERICA!
Richmond, VA - On Saturday, October 16, 2004 from 3 pm to 7 pm, a
special
early Mercado Latino highlights Mexico, Central America, and the United
States (the second largest Spanish speaking country by population).
Proudly
sponsored by Dominion and Philip Morris USA, this presentation of
Mercado
features vendors offering delicious traditional empanadas, burritos and
patacones, and handmade crafts from across the Spanish-speaking world.
DJs
Omar Gonzalez and Sergio "Ritmo de Hoy" will fill the air with the
sounds of
El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama. Richmond's newest Mexican band, Los
Vagabundos headlines the night, performing in the popular contemporary
"Sonidero" style that permeates the airwaves of Latin radio. The
AsociaciĆ³n
Hispano-Americana de Richmond will bring the flowing rhythms of the
Mexican
dance in coordination with El Grupo Vagabundo. VCU instructor Maria
Panbehchi will present the storytelling tradition of Central America
through
the compelling tales of Guatemala. This convergence of bilingual
storytelling, live music, remarkable cuisine, and imported crafts
provides
Richmonders the opportunity to participate in the incredible exchange of
culture, history, and language known as Mercado.
