Portland-based experimental rock band, Menomena, formed in late 2000 through a post-college reunion of friends who had played music together in high school. The band began as a trio, but the current artistic collaboration radiates from the duo of Justin Harris and Danny Seim. Both of these multi-instrumentalists share the singing/songwriting duties. Menomena put themselves on the map with their self-released debut album in 2003. They then signed to Barsuk Records for the release of their second full-length album, “Friend and Foe”, in 2007. The album's artwork was designed by graphic novelist/cartoonist Craig Thompson and consisted of die-cut shapes, decoder rings, and hidden messages. The album received critical acclaim for both music and artistic content. Websites like Pitchfork Media praised the album for its effective modular pop sound and the album received a Grammy nomination for “Best Recording Package”. After the release of the album “Mines” in 2009, Menomena took their stride and spent the next two years playing their music everywhere from the Coachella festival to the Laneway Festival in Australia, to Hawaii and Alaska, as well as performing on national television. Their fifth album will be released later this year. This show is 18 & over.
