The Writers of the Mendocino Coast writers group will read from their work for the Mendocino Stories & Music Series on Wednesday, January 19 at the Mendocino Hotel. The evening will start at 7PM with music by David Brown, guitarist. At 7:30PM, six members of the group will begin the readings.

Molly Dwyer, President, was honored last spring for “Writing Women Back into History” by the National Women’s Political Caucus of Mendocino. She’ll be reading from her latest novel, The Appassionata. Malcolm Macdonald writes a weekly column in The Mendocino Beacon about local history and nature.  He lives alongside the Albion River where his family has ranched and farmed since the 1800s.

In the Mouth, In the Eyes, a collection of short stories by Adrienne Ross, was published this year by Lost Coast Press.  Other work by Ms. Ross has appeared in literary journals, anthologies, and on-line magazines.  Ginny Rorby, a successful Young Adult novelist, authored Dolphin Sky and Hurt Go Happy, which won the American Library Association’s Schneider Family Book Award in 2008. Lost in the River of Grass will be published in March 2011.

Henri Bensussen recently published an essay in Bridges: A Jewish Feminist Journal, and a raunchy poem at online Imitation Fruit.com. Her work is a cross between a night at the circus and a lecture on some dense point in philosophy. In the ’60s, computers provided Doug Fortier his first taste of creative expression. The switch to retirement found him developing his painting and graphic arts skills. He began writing in 2006.

One thing you can say about David Brown, guitarist, is that he never met an instrument he couldn’t play. New Orleans native, David is concerned about the future of the unique music of his home town. He is now working to preserve traditional jazz as he was taught to play it - hot, funky, and guaranteed to make you feel good.
