Mendocino Stories & Music Series presents "The Queen Jane Swingtet" on Saturday, August 6 at 7:30PM at the Hill House of Mendocino. The five-piece jump swing band features “Queen Jane” Lawrence, Karl Schoen, Steve Paul, Laura Maione and Tom Rickard.
Swing veteran Jane Lawrence has been inspiring dancers for over half a century. Her piano style has been described as George Shearing meets Errol Garner. Karl Schoen doubles Tenor sax and flute. He's been entertaining here on the coast since the seventies playing Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Salsa.
One of the most fun bass players to experience, Laura Maione, always seems to be dancing with her big partner, either with a sly smile or a great big grin on her face. Joining the swingtet on drums is Tom Rickard - a veteran jazz player who performs regularly with John Gilmore, The Groovinators, and the Richard Cooper Trio. Special guest, trumpeter Steve Paul reminds us of Chet Baker on ballads, but don't let the cool fool you - he can blister, too.
The Queen Jane Swingtet’s swing-based repertoire also includes blues, tangos, waltzes, and mambos. The common denominator is that everything in their songbook is aimed at getting folks up and out on the dance floor. Come and see them for an invigorating foot massage.
Doors open at 6:30 PM for bistro menu and drinks. For more info 707-937-1732 or www.mendocinostories.com/events.
