The Whales return to the Mendocino Stories & Music Series on Friday, August 5. Lenny Laks and John Chamberlin, aka The Whales, have invited special guests Antonia Lamb and Jon Faurot to join them for an evening of eclectic Mendocino musicians. Music starts at 7:30PM at the Mendocino Hotel.
Lenny is a songwriter whose tunes have helped color the Mendocino Coast. His solo CD Ring Around The Sun can be heard on local radio as well as online. Several recordings with The Hamilton Face Band (NY) and a short stint as a "staff writer" for United Artists in LA, then a long run with The Mendocino All Stars make up his past. He is a bassist who sings.... a rare feat.
John is a multi talented stringed-instrument picker and song stylist with a pack of tunes from Randy Newman to Little Feat, Ry Cooder and back. He has played with many local groups - Cat Mother, Horse Badorties, Mark Levine Review, los Cumbaleros, and is always phenomenal. Known also for his prodigious career as a poster artist... his unmistakable style captures the "feel" of Mendocino, like the current poster for this event.
Iconic Mendocino songwriter/astrologer, Antonia Lamb is currently completing her 6th all-local album. Her songs have been sung &/or recorded by major & minor artists. She's performed extensively in the U.S. and internationally. Her 2010 CD, "Banjo Grandma," benefits the Mendocino Coast Children's Fund.
Jon Faurot's talent as a bass player (despite his guitar, piano & vocal skills) led him from the midwest to the U.K., L.A., S.F. & then Mendocino: onto many stages with a host of major bands & artists. Locally, hear him with Steven Bates, Antonia Lamb, Lenny Laks, Lynn Kiesewetter & others.
All ages welcome! Bistro menu and libations are available as soon as the doors open at 6:30PM. 707-937-1732 www.mendocinostories.com/events.html
