The Mendocino Stories and Music Series welcomes back Dusty Rhodes and Her Handsome Cowboys on Friday, February 4. After a standing-room-only show in October at Lauren’s in Boonville, we knew we had to book them at the Mendocino Hotel. Dusty’s band is reminiscent of the Sons of the Pioneers, with humor and yodeling thrown in. Their act has been best described as “Roy and Dale meet the Smothers Brothers”. Showtime is 7:30PM.
“Sassy cowgirl Dusty Rhodes is a true performer, keeping us engaged from the moment she starts her show,” says the Oregon Country Fair. “She’s having a good time and it’s infectious! Her Handsome Cowboys are talented musicians and singers who create a solid backdrop for Dusty’s antics.”
CiCi Dawn (Dusty Rhodes) started working at the local rodeo grounds at age twelve, where she learned her first cowboy songs. She is a lively vaudeville performer, using humorous shtick to seamlessly flow between her parodies on TV western themes, original topical/political humor, classic old country and genuine westerns songs. Joining her is Carl Kraines (Red Rhodes), veteran guitar player, actor and vocalist, keeping the humor high with his droll remarks.
Playing a mean harmonica is Catfish Jack Rhodes, noted for accompanying Los Lobos on many of their gigs when he lived in Austin, Texas. He has recently moved back to Sonoma County, where he’s been seen at the Kate Wolf festival.
Fiddlin’ Michael Kane, Rocky Rhodes has been part of the country music scene in Northern California for the last thirty years, with a classical music background and major influences of rock-n-roll, country, bluegrass, blues and folk.
All Ages Welcome! Doors open at 6:30 PM for bistro menu and drinks. Sliding scale $10-15. For more information call Pattie at 937-1732 or http://www.mendocinostories.com/events.html
