Thomas Wilkins, music director of the Omaha (NE) Symphony and resident conductor of the Detroit Symphony, is next in line to audition for Memphis Symphony Orchestra's music director position. One of the few African-American conductors in the country, Wilkins will guest conduct MSO's next chamber orchestra concert, entitled "In Other Words", as part of the Paul and Linnea Bert Fridays on the Town Series. Wilkins is the second of the three conductor candidates to audition for the music director position being vacated by Maestro David Loebel. He will lead the orchestra through a program of works by Beethoven, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Antheil and Haydn.
