The Madness that starts the college basketball season is only three days away, and the Tigers are gearing up to begin the 2006-07 year in style. Memphis Madness is slated for Friday, Oct. 13 at FedExForum.
Doors to the event open at 7:30 p.m. (CT), and an autograph session with the Tiger and Lady Tiger teams runs from approximately 7:35 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The event's festivities are scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m.
One of the night's events is the dunk contest, and this year, three of the judges are national celebrities with local ties. Craig Brewer, director and producer of Hustle & Flow; Jerry "The King" Lawler, wrestling legend and WWE commentator; and Mike Miller, Memphis Grizzlies' forward, will give their ratings for the Tigers' dunks.
Also, the first 200 kids that arrive at Memphis Madness Friday will have the opportunity to shoot free throws on the Tigers' court following the 9-10:00 p.m. program. The first 200 kids will receive a coupon when they enter FedExForum Friday, and the kids will use that coupon to get on the playing floor to shoot free throws.
Admission to Memphis Madness is free. Fans are encouraged to bring canned food donations to help support the Memphis Food Bank. The donations will be collected at the doors.
