Veterans will join active members of the armed forces, including visiting marines and sailors who are in New York City for Fleet Week, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30 at 11AM at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
The ceremony will include the unfurling of a 100-foot American flag on Intrepid’s flight deck, the playing of Taps, a ceremonial wreath laying, 3-volley rifle salute and a military flyover. The event is free with price of admission to the museum.
This year’s Fleet Week festivities take place from May 25- May 30, 2010. A Fleet Week icon, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum hosts many popular Fleet Week events including military displays and demonstrations, special performances, athletic challenges between groups of visiting marines and sailors and a special Memorial Day ceremony.
