Two modern works telling the stories of great musicians of the past. Bill Richardson’s The Translation of Emily is based on the life of Emily Anderson, the intriguing Irish-born British spy also known for her translations of the letters of Mozart, whose music interlaces the narrative. Pau, A Testament by Imant Raminsh is drawn from the autobiography of cellist Pablo Casals and is set to beautiful music for choir and quartet of cellos. The part of Casals is sung by baritone George Roberts. Also on the programme are two powerful settings of the lament When David heard that Absalom was dead sung by the combined forces of the Vancouver Chamber Choir and the Focus! Choir of outstanding college and university singers.
