The “Read the Movie, Watch the Book” selection is based on the book of the same name. The 2005 film tells the story of Japan through the journey of a young girl from an impoverished nine-year-old to a geisha in Kyoto’s Gion district. As a renowned geisha, she enters a society of wealth, privilege and political intrigue. As war looms, Japan and the geisha world are forever changed by the onslaught of history. It is rated PG-13. Discussion time will follow the movie. Free and open to the public.
